Stereo Pan

Places a mono signal anywhere in the stereo field, from hard left through center to hard right. A clean, single-knob panner for spreading a voice out of the middle, parking a part to one side, or sweeping a sound across the stereo image with CV.

How it works

Stereo Pan uses a constant-power (equal-power) law rather than a simple linear fade, so the perceived loudness stays steady as you move across the field. At center, each side sits about -3 dB instead of falling away — there's no hollow dip as a sound passes through the middle, and no extra loudness bump at the edges.

Controls

• Pan — where the signal sits, from hard left (-100) through center (0) to hard right (+100). Center is balanced, with both sides at equal power.

Inputs & outputs

• In — the mono signal to place in the field.
• Pan CV — sums with the Pan knob and is clamped to the full range; a ±5 V signal sweeps the whole left-to-right span. Patch an LFO for auto-pan, or an envelope to throw a sound to one side on each hit.
• Out L / Out R — the panned stereo pair; patch both to a stereo destination.

Tips

• Set Pan off-center and add a slow LFO to Pan CV for a gentle drift around a fixed position.
• For a wide ping-pong, feed Pan CV a bipolar square or a sequenced gate and let it snap between the extremes.
