A timeline for evolving music
vxsynth has an internal song timeline synchronization system for creating evolving patches. Many modules, such as the Piano Roll, include an option to sync to the song position instead of using a typical external clock. The timeline can be configured to use bars and beats, or seconds.
Thirty-two automation lanes
For evolving patches, an automation dock with 32 lanes in four banks is provided. The automation values are surfaced within patches using the AUTO A through AUTO D modules.
Over 160 modules, and full devices
vxsynth includes more than 160 modules. Most are building blocks such as oscillators, filters, and envelopes. The Devices category holds larger modules that work as instruments on their own, including emulations of classic synthesizers.
Built-in sample storage
vxsynth includes sample hosting, and a sample browser. There are plenty of sample playback modules, including modules for one-shot playback, loop slicing, and granular playback.
AI agent friendly
vxsynth can connect to an AI coding agent such as Claude Code. Connecting an agent is trivial (using MCP), and allows your agent to edit a live patch.
Featured modules
Wyrm is a gritty synthesizer, good for dubstep or soundtracks. It has three oscillators, two routable filters, patchable effects, and a modulation matrix with a host of interesting modulation sources.
Drum Sequencer provides a familiar 32 step drum pattern interface with 16 memory slots.
Step Sequencer is a flexible voltage output sequencer, with variable length, memory, start and end controls, and quantization.
Strata is a spectral synthesizer where sounds are sculpted using a layering system. It's polyphonic up to 8 notes.
The VX-7 is a six-operator FM synthesizer with sixteen preset voices, from electric pianos and basses to bells and pads.
Tracks is like putting a mini 6-track DAW into a modular environment. It can track the global song position, or run independently.
The VX Drum Machine plays six synthesized drum voices: kick, snare, clap, rimshot, and two hi-hats. Each voice has its own knobs for tone, decay, and level. The clock can be synced to the global song clock for consistent playback.
The VX-303 is a bassline synthesizer with a built-in 16-step sequencer. It's a rough emulation of the classic TB-303.
VX Cells is a grid instrument in the style of the Tenori-On, with a built-in sound library from the original CellsDS.
Weaver is an experimental additive sequencer that generates cv and gate output.
Circuit Bender emulates the speech chip from the 1978 Speak & Spell toy. It's built for experimental sound design by connecting or shorting pins on the chips.
