Resampler
A tempo-synced feedback looper. It captures the stereo audio passing through it and mixes back what played a chosen number of eighth notes ago — and because the echo can be fed into itself, loops layer and build until they bloom into self-sustaining drones.
How it works
The Resampler is really a clock-locked delay with a feedback path wired for self-oscillation. Audio streams into a ring buffer; a read tap pulls a copy from 1 to 16 eighth notes in the past and adds it to the output. Turn up feedback and that past audio is folded back into the buffer, so each pass re-records on top of the last. Tempo comes from the Clock input by default — the time between pulses sets the beat — and with nothing patched it sits at 120 BPM; set the Clock control to Song and it follows the timeline instead, no cable required. Moving Time crossfades smoothly between loop lengths, so you can sweep it live without clicks — and Smear sets how long that crossfade lasts, from a quick de-click to a slow morph between lengths.
Controls
- Time — loop length in eighth notes, stepped
1–16. Short settings give stutters and rhythmic doublings; long ones give roomy, bar-length repeats. - Fdbk — how much of the loop folds back on itself, up to
95%. Low for a single repeat; high to pile layers into a growing, sustaining wash. - Mix — wet/dry blend. At
100%(default) you hear the dry signal plus the full loop; pull it back to tuck the repeats under the source. - Smear — the length of the crossfade the read tap glides across each time Time jumps to a new step, from a near-instant
8 msde-click up to200 ms. Keep it short for crisp, snappy step changes; open it up to turn every loop-length change into an audible morph between the old and new lengths. - Clock — where the tempo comes from. Ext measures the pulses arriving at the clock input, which is how this module has always worked. Song follows the timeline's tempo directly, with no cable at all. Int runs at its own speed, set by the BPM field beside it. One thing worth knowing: in Ext the divisions are relative to whatever you clock it with, so feeding it sixteenths makes every label four times faster than it reads. In Int and Song the module knows what a quarter note is, so the labels mean exactly what they say.
- BPM — the tempo for Int. In Song it greys out and shows you the timeline's tempo instead; in Ext it greys out too, because the cable is in charge.
Inputs & outputs
- In L / In R — the stereo signal to capture; left and right loop independently so width is preserved.
- Time / Fdbk / Mix / Smear CV — voltage control over each knob; patch an LFO or envelope to sweep loop length, feedback, wet/dry blend, or crossfade for shifting, evolving textures.
- Clock — patch a clock or gate to lock the loop to your tempo; the interval between pulses defines the beat.
- Out L / Out R — the stereo result: source plus loop, scaled by Mix.
Tips
- Push Fdbk near maximum and play a short phrase in — the Resampler keeps it alive as a drone you can keep adding to.
- Sweep Time while feedback is high for pitched, rhythmic glitching as the crossfade rides between lengths.
- On Ext with no Clock patched it sits at 120 BPM; share one clock with the rest of your patch to keep loops in step, or switch to Song and skip the cable.
