Probability Gate

A coin-flip for triggers. Each pulse that arrives is either passed through or dropped, with the odds set by you. Patch it inline on a clock or sequencer gate to thin out rhythms and keep a part from feeling mechanical.

Controls

  • Prob — the chance an incoming trigger makes it through, from 0 (never) to 1 (always). At 0.5 roughly half survive; sweep it to set how busy or sparse the part feels.

Inputs & outputs

  • Trig — the triggers to gate; patch a clock, a sequencer gate, or any pulse source.
  • Prob — CV control of the pass-through chance, summed with the knob (0–10V covers the full range).
  • Out — fires a trigger whenever the dice fall in favour; otherwise stays silent.

Tips

  • Every trigger is rolled independently, so the surviving rhythm shifts each pass — great for hi-hats, ghost notes, and generative fills.
  • Modulate Prob with an envelope or LFO to breathe between dense and sparse over time.
