Noise

A three-color noise source. Raw randomness for percussion, wind and surf textures, sample-and-hold fodder, or filter sweeps — pick the flavor that fits and dial in the level.

Controls

  • Mode — chooses the color of the noise. White is flat and bright, equal energy at every frequency — the hissy default. Pink rolls off the highs to 1/f, the fuller, more natural-sounding noise of rain and waterfalls. Brown rolls off harder still, a deep, rumbly random walk that's almost sub-bass.
  • Level — output amount, from silence to full ±5V.

Inputs & outputs

  • Out — the noise signal at modular level.

Tips

  • Feed Out into a clocked sample-and-hold for random stepped voltages — pink or brown give smoother, more correlated jumps than white.
  • Patch through a resonant filter and sweep the cutoff: white makes searing wind, brown makes thunder.
