Chord

Turns one root note into a whole chord — four pitch CVs, ready to drive four oscillators. Pick a root and a chord type, patch outputs 14 into your oscillators' V/OCT inputs, and you have instant harmony. Every control also has a CV input, so a sequencer can play the changes while an LFO stirs the voicing.

How it works

The chord is built as four chord tones above the root (triads double the root an octave up on voice 4, so all four outputs always sound). Invert rotates which chord tone is the bass; Spread fans the upper voices out by whole octaves — always whole octaves, so the chord's character never detunes.

Controls

  • Chord — sixteen types, from Major through mAdd9. The order runs

triads → power → sixths → sevenths → add9s, so nearby CV values pick related colors.

  • Root — the chord's root note, CB.
  • Octave — shifts everything by whole octaves, -3+3.
  • Invert03: rotates the chord so the 3rd, 5th, or 7th becomes the

lowest voice. Great for smooth voice-leading between chord changes.

  • Spread03 octaves: opens the voicing from tight to huge. Voice 4

rises fastest.

Inputs & outputs

  • Root — 1V/oct pitch CV, added to the Root/Octave knobs and rounded to the

nearest semitone, so even a loose CV lands in tune. Sequence this to play a progression.

  • Chord / Inv / Spread CV — add on top of their knobs: 0–10 V sweeps the

whole chord list; about 3.3 V per inversion step; 10 V = +3 octaves of spread.

  • 1–4 — the four voices, lowest to highest, 1V/oct (0 V = C4).

Tips

  • Four oscillators is the full experience, but even outputs 1 + 2 into two

oscillators makes lovely intervals.

  • Sequence Root and leave the chord on Minor 7 for instant lo-fi changes;

modulate Invert with a slow LFO for gentle voice-leading motion.

  • Power + heavy Spread into detuned saws is an instant wall of sound.
