Amplifier

A gain stage with a selectable output character. Boost a signal up to four times, then choose how it behaves when it runs hot — from a clean limiter to saturation, wavefolding, and wrap-around mayhem. As useful for taming levels as it is for adding grit and harmonics.

Controls

  • Gain — how hard the input is driven, from silence at 0 up to . At 1 the signal passes at unity; push higher to slam it into whichever Mode you've chosen.
  • Mode — the output character once the boosted signal exceeds its ceiling. Clean hard-clips at the rails for a clean limiter; Soft is a smooth tanh saturation that rounds peaks into warm overdrive; Fold reflects the signal back on itself for bright, metallic wavefolding; Wrap jumps from one rail to the other, splintering the waveform into harsh, buzzy harmonics.
  • Thresh — the fold-back point for Fold and Wrap, from 1 to 10. Lower it and the signal crosses that boundary more often, packing in denser, brighter harmonics; raise it toward 10 to push the folding and wrapping out to the extremes. It sits quiet in Clean and Soft modes.

Inputs & outputs

  • In L / In R — the signal to amplify; audio or CV. Mono? Just use L and it feeds both outputs. Patch a stereo pair and each side is driven and shaped on its own through the shared knobs, so a wide source stays wide.
  • Gain / Thresh CV — voltage control over those two knobs; patch an LFO or envelope to animate the drive and the fold point as the sound plays. Both channels follow the same CV.
  • Out L / Out R — the processed result. With stereo in but only L cabled, the channels fold to mono automatically so nothing goes missing.

Tips

  • Keep Gain low and Mode on Clean to use it as a transparent level trim or limiter.
  • Fold and Wrap get more extreme the harder you drive them — sweep Gain with an envelope or LFO for evolving timbres rather than a static tone.
