ADSR Envelope
A classic four-stage envelope generator with calibrated exponential curves. A gate sweeps it through attack, decay, sustain, and release — the shape you patch into a VCA, filter, or any modulation destination to give a sound its movement and articulation.
Controls
- Attack / Decay / Sustain / Release — set the attack, decay, and release times (roughly 1 ms to 30 s, exponentially scaled) and the sustain level. Drag the handles on the curve display or turn the Atk / Dcy / Sus / Rel knobs below it; the two mirror each other, so the curve always shows exactly what you'll hear.
- Shape — bends every segment from snappy exponential toward near-linear. Sharp shapes punch; gentle shapes glide.
- Loop — when On, the envelope re-enters attack the instant the release stage reaches zero instead of resting; clock the Gate and it keeps re-firing in time.
- A CV / D CV / S CV / R CV — bipolar attenuverters that scale the four CV inputs; centred is off, and either direction sets how far the incoming voltage pushes that parameter.
Inputs & outputs
- Gate — starts the envelope and holds it at the sustain level; release the gate to enter the release stage.
- Retrig — restarts the attack from the current level while the gate is still held — for re-articulating a held note without retriggering from zero.
- Atk / Dcy / Sus / Rel — CV control over the four parameters, each scaled by its attenuverter.
- Env — the envelope itself,
0–10V. - Inv — the inverted envelope: full at rest, zero at the peak.
- EOC — a trigger pulse fired the moment the release completes; chain it to clock another envelope or advance a sequence.
Tips
- Patch Inv to a VCA for ducking, or to a filter for an inverse swell that opens as the note decays.
- Feed Retrig from a clock or burst to re-strike the attack rhythmically over a sustained gate.
